An IPTV operator in Italy received a four-year prison sentence while thousands of his customers now face fines up to €5,000.

Prison Sentence for IPTV Ringleader
Italian courts sentenced Cristian Fidato to four years and four months in prison for operating the illegal ‘Italia TV’ streaming service.
The 23-year-old ringleader also received a €22,000 fine after authorities shut down his operation in December 2024.
Fidato’s associates faced lighter penalties. Anatoliy Perrotta from Ukraine got one year and four months with a suspended sentence. A third defendant received one year in prison.
The Guardia di Finanza of Naples led the investigation, discovering Italia TV had generated approximately €850,000 in revenue over four years by charging subscribers €80 annually.
Thousands of Subscribers Face Fines
Italia TV served around 6,000 subscribers across Europe, offering content from Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime, Sky, and DAZN sports channels. Now those subscribers face an unprecedented crackdown.
Deputy Prosecutors are coordinating efforts to fine every identified user. This marks a major shift since authorities previously focused only on operators while subscribers escaped consequences.
Last month, Italian officials fined over 2,200 users of a different pirate IPTV service, setting the precedent for mass subscriber penalties.
Fine Structure and Criminal Activity
Subscriber fines range from €51.33 for first-time offenders up to €5,000 for repeat violations. Reports indicate some penalties have already been issued, with recipients choosing to pay rather than contest charges.
Around 2,000 subscribers paid using cryptocurrency, which authorities successfully tracked. Fidato allegedly opened 32 bank accounts under false identities while claiming student status on tax documents.
The investigation revealed disturbing additional criminal activity. Police discovered Fidato had been distributing child exploitation material through WhatsApp groups. Authorities also found an indoor cannabis cultivation operation.
